Your Medicare card displays proof that you are entitled to Medicare benefits. If you lose your card, you will have to order a new one. This can make presenting your insurance information to health care providers more difficult.
Here’s what you can do if you lose your Medicare card.
I Lost My Medicare Card
If you lose your Medicare card, you need to order a replacement through the Social Security website. You will be directed to log into your My Social Security account. Through that portal, you can request a new card to be sent to your listed address.
You can also call Social Security to have a card sent. They are available toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
How Long Does It Take To Get a Replacement Medicare Card
It may take up to 30 days to have a replacement Medicare card delivered to your home. If you need proof of benefits sooner, you can request to have a letter mailed to you within 10 days. This letter can be used as proof of Medicare benefits.
What If I Need Proof Of Medicare Coverage Immediately?
If you need to prove that you have coverage immediately, we suggest that you schedule an in-person appointment at your local Social Security office. Otherwise, some health care providers will accept a Social Security statement that shows that you are entitled to benefits.
