How Do PFFS Plans Work?

Since PFFS plans are types of Medicare Advantage plans, they will provide the same coverage as you would have received with Original Medicare (Parts A and B). They may also provide you with additional benefits:

  • Dental, vision, or hearing coverage
  • Memberships to a gym
  • Nutrition and wellness programs
  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Transportation to doctor appointments
  • Adult daycare services

The area you live in and the plan providers available will determine which of these benefits you will be eligible for. Keep in mind that if your PFFS plan doesn’t provide prescription drug coverage, you can join a Part D prescription drug plan.

With PFFS plans, you won’t have to choose a primary care doctor or get referrals to see specialists. However, there may or may not be a healthcare provider network. To find out if there is, you can get in touch with one of our Medicare experts to make sure.

PFFS plans will also determine how much it will pay your healthcare provider, as well as how much you will pay for your covered health services. This is different compared to other plans as Medicare will typically decide what these rates will be. Due to this key aspect, you will want to confirm with your healthcare provider if they will accept your plan’s payment terms before you receive any services.

When Can I Enroll?

You can enroll in a PFFS plan by using one of Medicare’s enrollment periods:

  • Initial Enrollment Period
  • Annual Enrollment Period
  • Special Enrollment Period
  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period
